Boxes were my favorite home build as a child. Occasionally, as a group effort I used to play in boxes with my siblings and friends. With tape and a dull knife, we all made our own window and doors, shelves and divider rooms and created our little neighborhood with friends. We sure made a mess and entertained ourselves.
Our mom was so patient with the mess and sometimes helped out. We would get so excited when dad would bring us more boxes when he came home. Our homes wore out fast and needed repairs which didn’t happen because we used up the tape to fast …. Lack of supplies.
When we were out of boxes , we tried a dirt dig out or two…which was so much work but lasted longer until it rained. That was a committed long laborious group effort which dad didn’t like and we had to fill it all back in after our excavations got to big.
When we felt brave, knowing dad and mom would be gone for an extended time, we made tents with blankets and chairs. That emptied out all the closets and made a mess of the house and got our parents upset. Mom would make us promise not to do that before she would go out with dad on dates.
That was a hard promise to keep and I failed a few times…. Until Dad introduced us to tree houses!
A truly inspired invention that diverted our attention forever from the previous activities.
So many nice memories …
